Frequently Asked Questions

To be seen by a dermatologist for a medical condition, you will need a referral from your family doctor or walk in clinic doctor. Have your referring doctor fax us the appointment at (905) 274-9991 and our booking coordinator will be in touch with you to notify you of your appointment.

To be seen by a dermatologist for a cosmetic consultation or to be seen by our medical esthetician, you can call us at (905) 274-9999 or email us at bookings@dermedge.com.

We do not accept walk-in patients, nor do we accept emergency patients.

Procedures that are strictly cosmetic and require no medical prediagnosis do not require a referral. Procedures for skin concerns that may be of a medical nature do require a referral. If you are interested in a skin care product line consultation, overall skin rejuvenation, a chemical peel, medical facial or laser hair removal, you do not need a referral. You will have a consultation with our Medical Esthetician prior to receiving the treatment and may meet with one of our dermatologists. If you are interested in treatment for acne scars, pigmentation or another skin concern that may require a physician’s guidance,  you will require a referral for an appointment at our clinic.

The items below will require a referral to be assessed by a Dermatologist prior to any treatment by the Esthetician:

– Vbeam

– IPL

– Micro-needling

– Etwo Sublative

While each referral is triaged for urgency (based upon physician assessment), our current wait-times are as follows:

  • urgent appointments (based upon physician assessment- i.e. suspected melanomas etc.) are booking immediately (1-3 weeks)

  • non-urgent appointments are booking at least 12 months out

We do have a cancellation list. If you wish to be placed on our cancellation list, please ensure that your referral letter indicates as such in your referral letter.  Or, you can email us your request at bookings@dermedge.com.

When you come to our clinic through a referral from your family doctor and have a valid health card, there is no charge.

If you are having a dermatological procedure not covered under OHIP, there will be a charge, which will be discussed at the time of your first appointment.

Cosmetic consultations with our Medical Aesthetician are charged a nominal fee of $50, which are paid upfront at the time of booking and can be applied towards services or products recommended during your consultation. All cosmetic procedures shall be paid upfront at the time of booking.

Our office uses state-of-the-art technology and we are equipped to contact you to remind you of your appointment by text, email, or phone a week before your appointment.

At the time of booking your appointment, please ensure that your referring letter includes your preferred contact method (whether text, email or phone) and your most up to date coordinates. You can also do this at the time of confirming your appointment by emailing us at bookings@dermedge.com.

Bring your valid health card and a list of current medications.

Please aim to arrive 10 minutes before your appointment in order to check-in and have sufficient time to complete your intake form. If you are late for your appointment, in fairness to the other patients after you, there is a chance that you may not be seen or will have to wait until the end of the doctor’s shift.

While our doctors typically run on time, one can never predict the seriousness of earlier patients. Thus, you can expect to be seen anywhere between your appointment time and as late as 1.5 hours after your appointment time.

We understand that in life things come up and you can’t always make your appointment. In order to be fair to other patients who are waiting on the cancellation list, we would appreciate it if you could let us know as soon as possible if you need to cancel your appointment or rebook it to a later date. Unfortunately, we are unable to rebook appointments to an earlier date.

Where appointments are cancelled with less than 2 business days’ notice, it makes it difficult for us to help others, which is less than ideal for everyone. So, if your appointment is on a Monday, then we would need to know by the previous Thursday if you will not be able to make it.

Where we receive less than 2 business days’ notice, we will levy a rebooking fee made payable at the time of booking your next appointment for OHIP medical appointments with one of our dermatologists. For other practitioners at our clinic, varying no-show and last minute cancellation fees apply that will be discussed at the time of your booking.

We understand that it may become necessary to reschedule an appointment.  To accommodate the needs of our patients we require two (2) business days’ notice to change your appointment.

There will be absolutely no charge for your need to change your appointment if you provide us with at least two (2) business days’ notice.  If last minute cancellations or no-shows happen a cancellation fee will be applied.

Each situation is different, and we realize that family, office emergencies, and illness can arise.  We will be pleased to discuss the details of short notice appointment changes on an individual basis.

Thank you kindly for your cooperation!
